What test orders do to your store
The side effects of a test order, what it cannot test, and what to check before you run one or schedule them.
On this page
A test order creates a real WooCommerce order through your real checkout. That is what makes it a useful test, and it is why you should know what it touches.
What it does
- Creates an order and uses up an order number. The free test keeps the cancelled order until you delete it. PRO deletes it after the run unless you choose to keep it, but the order number is still used.
- Blocks emails while it runs. WordPress and WooCommerce emails, including admin “cancelled order” emails, are held back, and WooCommerce webhooks are held back too.
- Makes requests only to your own site. Nothing is sent to Kodenzo or anyone else, and no payment provider is contacted. The test payment method is hidden from visitors.
- Stays private. The test product is private and hidden, and visitors cannot add it to a cart.
What it cannot control
- Other plugins that react to a new order, such as accounting, ERP, warehouse, shipping label, analytics or messaging plugins, may still act on a test order. Commerce Health cannot undo that.
- Reports. WooCommerce reports leave out cancelled orders by default, but other plugins and custom reports may count a test order.
What it cannot test
- Your real payment methods. The test uses a hidden test payment method, so a pass says nothing about Stripe, PayPal or any other gateway.
- With the free plugin, shipping, tax and coupons. PRO tests one shipping rate, one 10% coupon and a tax comparison.
- A one-item test order cannot reproduce shipping rules based on weight or cart value, or other coupon types.
- Anything on a host that blocks a site from requesting itself. The test cannot run there and says so.
Before you run one on a live shop
- Check whether any plugin or service reacts to new orders, and whether it ignores cancelled orders.
- Tell the people who handle orders that a clearly marked “Kodenzo Test Order” may appear.
- Start with a manual run and look at the result before you consider a schedule.
The checkout monitors never create orders; only the Test order tools do, and only when you press the button or switch the schedule on. See Does Commerce Health change anything on my site?
